I had two adorable baby showers that were both themed around the willy, nilly, silly old bear. I got the idea from a Winnie the Pooh doll I have that was my Grandma Winnie’s. She called herself “Winnie the Crew” and the theme was like having a little piece of her there with us for the celebration.

Our adorable party gifts we had for everyone at both showers were none other than … jars of Organic White Honey from Heavenly Organics. I know! It’s just the cutest idea. Each jar had some cute twine tied around it to hold a little gift tag and a mini honey dipper. The tag had a Winnie the Pooh HONEY ink stamp on one side and a written note on the back which said “SWEET of you to come! Love, Krysten”.

For the first shower, we had a beautiful Sunday lunch with 25 guests at one of our favorite spots in Newport Beach called Farmhouse at Rogers Gardens. The shower was held in their gazebo, which has a very exciting past and I’ll get to that later. This was my women-only shower, and there were family and friends who have known me since before I was born and who I’ve met in recent years — all whom I hold very near and dear to my heart.

Farmhouse at Rogers Gardens has a wonderful seasonal menu, they are known for their co*cktails, mocktails and their green-garden-meets-farmhouse style atmosphere. It was truly the perfect location for a Sunday baby shower… and the gazebo’s history — I haven’t forgotten to tell you. Keep reading, I’ll get to that.

For the centerpieces we wanted something subtle Winnie the Pooh, and that was more about the classic A.A. Milne character rather than the bright yellow bear that Disney made popular (no shade to Disney). We bought large terracotta pots, one for each table and one for the cake table. I painted each pot to look like a honey pot with 2 shades of yellow paint “spilling out” of the top to look like a big sticky mess of honey. Using black paint, I carefully painted “HUNNY”, often with the “U” or an “N” painted backwards. We placed a potted plant with yellow flowers to look like honey and filled in the edges with fresh preserved sheet moss.

With the smaller mini terracotta pots I also painted honey spilling out of them (without painting HUNNY) and placed the green floral foam in each one and covered the tops with fresh preserved sheet moss. I wrote “Krysten’s Baby Shower” on popsicle sticks and glued them together to look like a wooden post. I stuck one in each of the mini pots and we placed one mini pot next to each large HUNNY pot.

I found some large wood slices that look like tree trunk slabs to sit under each large pot of HUNNY. I glued some reindeer moss to the outer part of the wood slabs (we chose to hot glue them in case it was windy out so that moss wouldn’t go tumbling everywhere). I found some colorful monarch butterflies to place throughout the decorations: some on the large flower HUNNY pots and a few on the mini pots as well.

Everything looked darling (as my Grandma Winnie would say). The cakes were also out-of-this-world fantastic and a huge hit with everyone at the shower. We got two cakes from a local bakery here in Newport Beach called Meet The Source. There was a mixed berry cake and a peanut butter, chocolate, cookie dough cake — both are gluten-free, vegan, raw and made without cane sugar. Plus, they are stunning!

As we were leaving the shower, I noticed a plaque at the entrance of the gazebo. I had been to this restaurant many times over the last 6 years and have never stopped to see what it said. As it turns out, this gazebo is none other than the ORIGINAL Disneyland Bandstand where Mickey Mouse led his 16-piece band on opening day at Disneyland on July 17, 1955. In the mid 1970s, Roger’s Gardens acquired the Disneyland Bandstand and moved it to it’s current location where it serves as a place for visitors to relax and enjoy a nice meal and the surrounding gardens. It’s also a fantastic place for a Winnie the Pooh themed baby shower for a Disney lover like me! I guess it was meant to be!

Our friend, Joanna, a wonderful photographer took photos of the shower (so glad we did this) all of the photos from the first shower are from her. My sweet hubby came by at the end, brought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers, had some dessert and said hello to everyone.

For my second baby shower, we had a co-ed party in San Francisco (my hometown) on Super Bowl Sunday. We didn’t really plan it to be the day of the big Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre concert mixed in with some football, but it worked out great. I won’t go into a ton of details here, but I wanted to share some cute food ideas that we did. There aren’t many great photos as the lighting wasn’t in our favor and I was too busy enjoying our guests to stop and take photos. But I do have a wonderful recipe to share that would be great for Springtime, Easter Sunday or any Winnie the Pooh themed party. You have to make Rabbit’s Carrots also known as Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Carrots because they are oh-so-adorable!

Rabbit's Carrots (Choc Strawberries)

For the food I made a bunch of the popsicle sticks (like the ones seen in the photos below) and used the same mini terracotta pots that we had for the first baby shower. We had some amazing gluten-free, grain-free & paleo spanakopita, along with some paleo, vegan baklava and delicious cookies from Misfits Bakehouse. We had two more Meet The Source Cakes (coffee cream and strawberry rose pistachio) and hired a family friend to cater the rest.

Baby Shower Food:

  • Veggies from Rabbit’s Garden

  • Spanakopita

  • Kabobs

  • Caprese Salad

  • Cookies

  • Baklava

  • Quiche

  • Kanga & Roo’s Pita Pockets & Hummus

  • Rabbit’s Carrots (chocolate covered strawberries)

Both showers were completely different but equally amazing. My beautiful mommy threw two lovely parties for us and our sweet baby boy, and I’m so grateful to have so many wonderful people in our life. This baby boy of ours is already so loved and for that we are extremely thankful.
