Green Bean Casserole with Bacon Recipe (2024)

Green Bean Casserole with Bacon Recipe (2)

Every Thanksgiving in my family has a Green Bean Casserole – this is how we roll and it actually one of the first recipe that I started making myself ( little fact about me)

My mom came up with the idea to add bacon to the casserole one year ( really can you go wrong with bacon?)

If you add any goodies to your green bean casserole dish let me know – we might try to change up the recipe this year

You might notice in the picture above that we use Turkey Bacon — a little know fact about me is that I do not personally eat pork ( now there is a story to this – if I get enough interest I will post the story but you need to comment on this post that you want to hear it)

You can use regular pork bacon I use turkey bacon ( enough said)

You can use fresh green beans – but it is weird but my family has ALWAYS used frozen green beans for this recipe so here we are

You can increase the amount of fried onions used – my husband is not a fan of onions ( and garlic, olives, mayo, mustard, beets, lettuce, and the list goes on) so I usually go pretty light on the amount of fried onions in the recipe – feel free to double the amount used for the topping.

Enjoy a random shot I took while making this recipe

Now let’s take a look at some finished photos 🙂

( Big thanks to my dad for holding the spoon 🙂 )

The recipe is enough to feed 6 and it is completely done from start to finish in about 45 minutes 🙂

If you make this recipe or any of my recipe I would love to know what you think — just comment on the recipe and I will be able to see it 🙂

Enjoy the recipe – love you all!

Would like to hear the story! I do not like pork either. Recipe looks yummy!

Love to hear the Pork story. Personally I love real Bacon but 1/2 the time I end up sick. So I’m assuming I’m kind of pork intolerant. Being Latina, pork is always in every Holiday meal so I load up on Pepcid and tums, lol. Would love to know what’s in it that sometimes makes me sick?? Garlic and eggs kind of give me the same effect if I eat too much in a single day. Weird….

My family doesn’t care for onions so I replace the onion topping with a mixture of crunched up ritz crackers and cheese. It is yummy! Just let the casserole cook for a bit before adding the mixture, otherwise it will get soggy.

Ok, so I mentioned to my family that I was going to add bacon to the green beans this year and I heard a chorus of approval! Truly, you can’t go wrong when adding bacon! Thanks so much for the recipe.

I made this for thanksgiving and it was a hit. Everyone raved about it. The only thing I did different from yours is before adding the remaining fried onions I put combination of shredded sharp cheddar and pepper jack on top of the casserole.

    Thanks for sharing this 🙂

Actually, this is German Green Beans-without that fried onion stuff. And no need to “cook” frozen beans first, they will get baked with the rest of the “casserole”. And no milk or water is involved.

OK now I am curious as to WHY you don’t eat pork?! I have never tried turkey bacon…is it good? I would like to hear the story!! I love green bean casserole and might try making this with bacon to bribe my 23 year old son to try and eat it lol…thanks for sharing!! Happy Thanksgiving xoxo

It is because when I was a child I had a pet pig – to me it is the same as eating Watson.
